Two Signals, Same Day, Inverse Directions
On Thursday June 4, two unrelated seasonals trigger simultaneously — a 6-month 1kGrowth long and a 4-month CORN short. The book's cleanest pair trade.
- NDX, 1kGrowth, SPX longs (Late-May Launchpad, entered May 21) — holding through Feb 18, 2027
- CORN short (Summer Corn Short, entered May 28) — holding through Nov 26, 2026
On June 4, two high-conviction seasonals trigger simultaneously: a 1kGrowth long (6-month hold, +9.1% median, 20/25 hit rate) and a CORN short (4-month hold, +11.3% median P&L, 20/25 hit rate). The two are not correlated — they trigger the same day but sit in different asset classes reacting to different drivers.
For traders comfortable with multi-leg positioning, this is the cleanest "pair" in the book: tech long, ag short. Sized equally by notional, the combination has historically produced smoother P&L than either leg alone — the corn short is uncorrelated to growth equities, so when 1kGrowth has had its 5 losing years (2001, 2002, 2008, 2011, 2022), the corn short was profitable in 4 of them. The exception was 2002: corn rose 13% as growth fell 10%, both legs losing together.
For single-position traders, choose based on style: the growth long is steadier (smaller drawdowns, more consistent positive years); the corn short is more explosive (bigger winners, also a bigger 2008 drawdown). Trade growth via IWF or VUG. Trade the corn short via short /ZC, KOLD-style inverse structures, or buying near-the-money puts.
A note on the second corn short. The Summer Corn Short from last week (entered May 28) is still open. This week's Corn short is a separate signal with a different entry and exit. Whether you double up depends on your sizing framework — for a strict 1-position-per-asset book, take only the earlier one. For a multi-instance book, both run independently with full conviction.
